Busy week of gigs coming up. Can’t wait!

If you’ve been wanting to get out to one of my trop rock gigs, the next week is your chance! This Thursday I’m playing for the Sarasota Bay Parrot Heads at Sun-n-Fun from 6-9. This is my home Parrot Head Club and a great bunch of people, so it’s always one of my favorite gigs.

Then this weekend I’m playing at Spanish Point on Saturday (6:30-9:30) and Cha Cha Coconuts in St. Armands Circle on Sunday afternoon (1-5). If you’ve never been to Spanish Point, this is the ultimate tiki bar on the water, and one of the best places to watch the sunset in Sarasota aside from the beach.

Then I’m playing at Cha Cha’s again on Wednesday from 7-11. If you come, order the fish tacos or the pulled pork sandwich — excellent!

Check my Tour Dates page for other upcoming gigs. And if you would like to book a trop rock house party, give me a call. Hope to see you soon!

Don’t miss the Parrot Head meeting this Thursday!

So I got my dates mixed up — the Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club elections are not this Thursday. But I am definitely playing, so I hope you’ll come out and spend time with your favorite PHriends and enjoy some good tunes. I can’t wait to hear all your stories about the Buffett concert!

What an amazing weekend! Loved playing in Orlando, Sand Box, St. Armands Circle and Nokomis!

Wow, what a weekend! I kicked off the weekend early at the Bayside Grille in Nokomis, one of my favorite mom and pop bar and grills on the Gulf Coast, with great food and great prices. Kim and Joe are amazing — you walk in and they make you feel welcomed right away.

Schooner played for the Parrot Heads of Central Florida PHlocking -- one of his favorite events!

Friday I played for the Parrot Heads of Central Florida‘s monthly PHlocking, which is one of the best Parrot Head clubs I’ve known. This is such a great group of people. Pam Hausle, el president, has such a passion for raising funds for charities that it’s inspiring to me. I always love traveling up to Orlando to play for these folks.

The next day I was up early (noon, which is early for a trop rocker) and headed up to Anna Maria Island for a gig at the Sand Box with Kid Conch (Rick Schettino) and Lightning Jack. The Sand Box was named the #1 house party venue by Beachfront Radio last year, and is one of my favorite places to play. Paul and Diana are such gracious hosts, and I’ve always had an amazing time playing there. Mark your calendar — I’m playing my annual concert at the Sand Box on August 2, so I hope you’ll come and join me!

Then I finished up the weekend playing Cha Cha Coconuts in St. Armands Circle on Lido Key just off the coast of Sarasota. All in all, the weekend definitely didn’t suck. The fact that it was 80 degrees and sunny didn’t hurt. Man, I love living in Florida!

I’m booking the spring and summer up and have  some great gigs coming up, so I hope you’ll come out and see me! Visit my Tour Dates page for a complete list of upcoming gigs. See you soon!

When I grow up, I want to be like Mac MacAnally

Jimmy Buffett is amazing, but as a songwriter, Mac MacAnally is my idol. Not only has he been the mastermind behind some of my favorite Buffett songs like In the City, License to Chill, Coast of Carolina and It’s My Job, but he’s written songs for artists like Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, Martina McBride, Brad Paisely, Dolly Parton and Toby Keith. And that’s just in the past six years. He’s an amazing artist and an inspiration to every song writer worth their salt. 1601586_10202297648096359_605060311_n

I had the chance to meet Mac at Meeting of the Minds 2013, and he was every bit as nice and down to earth as I had hoped he would be. I told all my trop rock buddies that this is a picture of me giving Mac song writing tips and him taking notes, but that’s about the biggest load of bull I’ve ever shoveled. He signed my Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club badge, and it’s something I’ll probably treasure forever.

Who else is ready for Parrot Head house party season?!

One of my favorite times of the year is summer because it’s Parrot Head house party season! I have met so many awesome Parrot Heads at the house parties I’ve played and attended, and I think I have as much fun as the audience does. While I sometimes need to tone the show down a bit (for the more sensitive ears in the restaurant), house parties are different. Not only do the Parrot Heads and beach worshipers want to hear my crazier songs like Shit Hit the Fan, they also want to hear about the inspiration for the song. Not that my show is raunchy — it’s definitely not — but there are a few songs that are a little nautier than others.

House parties also give me a chance to go a little deeper in my play list. While we all love Jimmy Buffett’s Songs You Know By Heart, the house partiers usually want to hear some songs that are a little more off the beaten track. It’s also a blast to bring other trop rockers up on stage who might be in the audience (and there are usually a few).If you’re hosting a house party this summer, whether it’s on the deck, by the pool, on the beach or in the basement, I’d love to play for you. But contact me soon, because dates are filling up. See you soon!

It’s Beach Wedding Music Time!

Just booked my first beach wedding of the summer, and I’m pretty pysched. I’ve performed for weddings many times over the past decade, but this is my first Anna Maria Island wedding. (Yes, just call me the wedding singer. But at least I’m the Sarasota wedding singer! ) My wife and I were married almost 20 years ago on Fort Myers Beach on a beautiful September day, so I’ve always had a fondness for beach weddings. Of course, I’m fond of just about anything that involves a beach. SAMSUNG DIGIMAX A503

My summer is booking up, but I’ve still got dates available if you or someone you know is hosting a Florida beach wedding and looking for beach-style entertainment. As you can see from my site, I specialize in creating that Jimmy Buffett vibe by playing a variety of tropical tunes plus my own originals. You can check out my song list page for a sample of the songs I regularly sing. If your special wedding song isn’t on there, I can learn it.

To book a wedding or other event, just visit my contact page. call me at (941) 387-6650 or email schoonertunes@gmail.com.

Raising money for Relay for Life

1506456_10203462381785919_1526604745_nMy mom is down from New York enjoying the warm Sarasota weather (can you blame her?) and took a night out of her vacation to join the Sarasota Bay Parrot Head Club and help raise money for Relay for Life. Our family has been touched by cancer more than I’d care to say — my dad, mother-in-law, aunt and grandfather were all taken by this terrible disease. So we’re big supporters of the Relay for Life event each year. Even though she won’t be here for the actual Relay event (unless we can convince her!), she contributed quite a bit during this visit. And I’m proud that she’s joined the ranks of the Parrot Heads!

Meeting of the Minds

It’s that time of year Parrot Heads — time to start planning for Meeting of the Minds! It’s rumored (as it always is) that Jimmy Buffett is going to make an appearance on the main stage at the Casa Marina Saturday night, and I have it on good authority that it’s true. So set your compass toward Key West and get ready to get your trop rock on!

Looking forward to playing for Koz again at Koz's Green World Gallery in Key West -- a great supporter of Trop Rock!

Schooner booking summer house parties

photo-6Parrot Head Phriends, Schooner still has some summer dates available for house parties in Florida, southern Georgia, between Florida and eastern Pennsylvania in late July, and the Carolina Coast in early August.

If you’re looking for a trop rocker who can sing your favorites along with clever tunes of his own that are sure to connect with your guests, such as In Arrears Drinking Beer, Pier Pressure and Mid-Life Vices, give Schooner a call for open dates.

Voted Beachfront Radio’s 2012 Bad Boy of Trop Rock, Schooner has played top trop rock venues like Tropical Isle on Bourbon Street in New Orleans; the Sand Box, voted #1 house party venue by Beachfront Radio; Meeting of the Minds; and for Parrot Heads across the country!
